The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced a recall of 408,000 dishwashers. Apparently, they can catch fire due to a faulty power cord. The affected brands include Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, Jenn-Air and Kenmore.
So, what does that mean for you?
First – check the brand of dishwasher in your home. If it is any brand other than the above mentioned, it’s probably OK. If it is any of the above brand, go to the top or inside door or sidewall to check the serial number. Not all models and serial numbers are affected.
Next you need to compare your model/serial number against the recalled models. The list can be found on the Consumer Product Safety Commissions website (https://www.cpsc.gov). If your dishwasher IS affected by the recall, you will need to go to the manufacturer’s website for further information. Those websites are as follows:
Bosch – www.bosch-home.com/us and click on Service, then Safety Notices
Gaggenau – www.gaggenau.com/us and click on Support, then Safety Notices
Jenn-Air – www.jennair.com and click on product recalls at the bottom of the page
Kenmore – https://kenmorepowercord.com/affectedmodels
Thermador – www.thermador.com and click on Customer Care, then Safety Notices
Luckily my dishwasher was not affected this time. However, I found out that there are LOTS of items being recalled all the time. In the past five days there have been recalls on everything from sweaters to fire extinguishers to Squatty Potty Toilet Step Stools! Check regularly on the CPSC website to make sure the items YOU use are safe!
