Each month the Sandi Reed Real Estate Group will provide you with a list to keep you on track with those essential home repairs. We want to remind you that maintaining your home does not have to be overwhelming, but it does require some consistent attention.
This month we continue to prepare your home for the Summer season. Some of these projects will only take a few minutes but can make a huge difference as we enter the dog days of summer.
#1 Clean the Carpets
Did you know that your carpet is your home’s largest filter? Allergens, pet dander and other irritants get carried in and trapped in your carpet. Some home carpet cleaners do more harm than good – depending upon the cleaning solvent. Use a professional carpet cleaner at least once a year to get all that stuff out of your carpet AND rugs!
#2 Check for Water Leaks Inside and Out
if your faucet dripped once every second every day, all day, it would only take four and a half hours to waste one gallon. Every day you would waste 5 gallons of water which means higher water bills! Address those drips now to save $$ later!
Run all faucets (especially those that don’t get used often) and check for tiny leaks around faucets and drains. Those tiny problems now will cause big problems later.
#3 Check for Electrical Safety
Test and reset all ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) outlets. You should have GFCI outlets by water sources (think kitchens, baths, outside and garages). If your home is older and the wiring is not grounded, you can now install GFCI protection outlets specific for that situation. Consult an electrician to make sure it is done right!
#4 Continue 5-Step Lawn Care Program
Fall is the best time to promote root system growth throughout the lawn, helping the grass grow thicker and. While experts say this can be done August – October, our Kansas City August’s might be too hot to start this process. Check with your local expert to find the ideal time to start that process.
We hope these tips keep you on track. If you have any other questions regarding real estate in Lee’s Summit or anywhere in the greater Kansas City area, give Sandi a call at 816-877-8732, or visit www.SandiReed.com. Licensed in both Missouri and Kansas.
